Description
English 9 Online is designed to meet the new BC English 9 Curriculum (2016) https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/curriculum/english-language-arts/9
It is an online course with interactive lessons, a variety of guided activities and assignments, and rubric-based assessment. Assignments foster critical and creative thinking, literacy skills, and the continued development of writing and reading skills.
There are four units in this course:
Unit One: Spectators/Players (paragraph writing/short story basics)
Unit Two: Descriptive Writing (Prose)/Descriptive Writing (Poetry)
Unit Three: Myths and Legends/Creative Writing
Unit Four: Novel Study
There is a course midterm after Unit 2, which tests material in Units 1 and 2. There is a course final tests material covered in Units 3 and 4 of the course.

Delivery
Student-paced - English 9 is a self-paced course and students can begin throughout the year. Students work through the course at their own pace, but they must complete the course within one year.
Assessment
Students will complete a variety of assignments to demonstrate skill building and knowledge of concepts. These include online quizzes, charts, discussion postings, and a wide variety of writing assignments. Assignments are submitted electronically through the course dropbox to ensure prompt feedback. Most assessments are rubric-based.
There will be a supervised midterm and final exam.
Materials
Most resources are built into the online course and can be accessed digitally. Students will choose a novel from a selection in the course for Unit 4
